Event Details

A 4 Day Stone Age Adventure set in a picturesque, unspoiled forest landscape.

During this immersive course you will be taught a range of skills used during the Stone Age for survival and tool making. The land itself is enchanting, with huge ancient trees surrounding an old quarry where the workshops take place.

Over the four days you will learn a variety of primitive skills including flint knapping, fire lighting, natural cordage making, resin glues, hunting, trapping, butchery and hide tanning. If time allows we may also cover additional skills such as bark containers, net making and foraging for wild plants.

Each subject is taught at a pace suited to the group so you can get the most from the experience and leave with lasting skills and memorable experiences.

During the course we will provide wild game such as deer, hare, pigeon and fish for an early afternoon or evening meal. You will also be introduced to primitive cooking techniques from the Mesolithic period, including methods such as sand roasted hazelnuts and clay wrapped fish.

Participants can arrive the evening before the course begins from 5:20pm, allowing time to set up camping equipment in the woodland camping area and meet the other attendees. On the final day, all equipment should be packed away and participants should be ready to depart the site by 4:30pm.

The course takes place in woodland near Barnham on the A134 between Bury St Edmunds and Thetford. Arrive at Barnham crossroads and turn into the village of Barnham. Drive through the village towards Euston, and the gateway will be on the left-hand side approximately half a mile after leaving Barnham. You can also navigate using What3Words: https://w3w.co/koala.hedgehog.suggested. The exact event location will also be included with your booking details.

An evening meal will be provided each day, but please bring food for breakfast and snacks. After breakfast there may be optional tasting sessions connected with the course, such as heart, liver or kidneys from deer or hare. If you would prefer not to participate in these, please bring alternative food.
